crewing_and_crew_npcs

In Chronicle, crew are assistant GMs. It is the least intensive way of engaging with the game, allowing you access to roleplay without having to develop part of the world, write turnsheets or come up with a character concept.

Crew play NPCs, either created by GMs or players’ backstory NPCs. It is possible that some NPCs currently assigned to GMs will be re-assigned to crew.

Just tell us the parts of the world you're most (and if relevant least) interested in engaging with, and we'll discuss a concept for an NPC with you. You will at this stage be able to decide whether they're a concept you'd find interesting to play, and discuss other directions with us if not (your place as crew will be guaranteed regardless).

Crew will be given personalised NPC briefs and a document summarising the secrets of the setting. Memorising the latter is not compulsory, and it will vary in significance between NPCs (there is an option to express preference on the form), but we do not anticipate it being logistically viable to keep crew from encountering spoilers. We will point you towards PCs and plotlines it is particularly productive for you to prod. You will have an assigned GM and a personal channel on the Discord, and have access to a general crew channel to interact OC with each other and GMs. You will not be part of the GM meetings or the voice calls during uptimes, in order to prevent them growing too large to manage.

In order not to overwhelm ourselves organisationally and to ensure we can properly support crew members, we will have limited space for crew. We will certainly have space for 4 crew (one per GM), although a few more (up to 6) may end up being possible. These numbers would increase correspondingly if we add a 5th or 6th GM.

Crewing as your top priority, or as a lower priority if you do not get a place as a player, will be options on the ballot form; they are equally weighted.

Our crewing form can be found here. It is due at the same time as the Character Creation Form (after the ballot, and so after you know that you will be Crew; your answers to the questions will not impact your place).

It asks for the following information:

  • Your OC name and pronouns
  • Your Discord username and email address
  • Themes you are interested in engaging with
  • Themes you'd rather avoid
  • How comfortable you are playing NPCs with higher access to complex setting secrets (you will OC have this access anyway, and can change your mind after having been shown the plot outline)
  • Anyone you’d like to have character links or not like to have character links with
  • How many NPCs you'd be comfortable playing (1 or 2)
  • Any other comments you have
