Play This If...

This page contains a list of themes, along with suggestions on which quirks to take, regions to engage with, and NPCs to interact with in order to effectively engage with said themes. This is intended to serve both as inspiration to build further off, and as advice to players who may know what they want to explore, but aren't quite sure how to.

However, these ideas are very much just that, ideas: feel free to modify, expand on, or ignore them as you see fit!

Maybe you're simply curious, or maybe you've always had a suspicion: either way, you can't help but wonder if there is more to this world than meets the eye. What better way to find out for certain than thorough, well-supported research?

  1. Consider taking the Mindwarper playstyle quirk or the Nameless One, Mountain-Dweller, Disciple of Alaxus, Disciple of Obix, or Mundmix Member's Club Card character quirks.
  2. Investigate the High Sages and relics of Nemeus.
  3. Investigate the Archive's collections and/or history.
  4. Investigate Endring's gods, secrets and outcasts.
  5. Talk to Alethea, Octavia, Thalia, Melos, Liria or Itztepex.

You're here to research, and just to research. Being part of the Archive is simply a way of giving back to the community – or maybe you have your own, separate goals. Either way, whatever weirdness might be going on doesn't bother you. Perhaps this position will be tested; perhaps it will endure.

  1. Be from Mayton Greynes.
  2. Talk to Juniper or Edgar.
  3. Take the Specialist quirk, and consider focusing your research on social science or technology.
  4. Consider taking the Mindstraightener quirk.

The different polities in this world all interact with each other, and are shaped by these interactions. Maybe you're out for power yourself, maybe you have skin in the game, maybe you believe something needs to change, or maybe you simply want to learn more. Either way, you care about the way each government acts and interacts with others.

  1. Interact with Mayton Greynes politics, talking to Starlight02, Alden or Lars.
  2. Interact with Endringian and Nemean geopolitics, talking to Itztepex, Liria or Melos.
  3. Research international relations and Nemean history, both in the past and present.
  4. Consider your character's thoughts on the Archive's aim to compile as much information as it can from across the world. At heart, do they agree with it? Why/why not?

Organised religion is the centre of life in Endring, and a significant part of it in Nemeus. Many in Endring would argue that other forms of belief are equally foundational to the Archive and Mayton Greynes, but many from these nations would dispute this. What do you believe in, and how does that impact your thoughts on what everyone else believes in? How far do you trust it, and is that enough?

  1. Be from Endring or Nemeus and/or research their history; interact with Melos, Thalia and Endring's gods.
  2. Consider taking Mindbender or Mindwarper.
  3. Consider what, and how much, your character's belief means to them. Why do they believe, and what would they sacrifice for it?
  4. Alternatively, consider what faith looks like outside organised religion: what does your character trust and believe in, and why?

This world is wide, and full of places to explore. Maybe your character has always had an affinity for nature; maybe the connectivity of the Archive has shown them a side of the world they didn't know existed. Either way, the Archive has made it feel closer than ever, and they would love to experience it for themselves.

  1. Consider being from Nemeus, and/or talking to Thalia or Melos.
  2. Consider revering Alaxus, Mumnos, Yuu or Flitch Baggaban.
  3. Consider specialising in unusual forms of research, such as looking at plants as historical sources.
  4. Consider travelling around the world in downtimes.

The Archive stores records from time truly immemorial, and yet is constantly looking to the future; Mayton Greynes, despite its recent creation, has already become a world leader in technology; Nemeus has recently opened its doors to the world. History keeps moving, and people – whether they like it or not – have no choice but to move as well.

  1. Investigate Endring's history and talk to the gods (especially Liria and Kleiops) or Melos.
  2. Investigate the Archive's history and talk to Alethea.
  3. Investigate Nemean history and talk to Thalia, Melos or Krates.
  4. Consider taking the Mindbender or Mindwarper playstyle quirks.
