A long long time ago...

Here begins a short treatise, in which the children of Alaxus may take great solace, and understand the might of Their All-Encompassing Gaze.

Thirty years ago, when the scent of blossoms grew saccharine and heavy, this conduit began to be troubled with attacks of intense foreboding. Not yet an old man, he felt not the despair for his life which can only imbue itself into the body with time. For he was continually hindered by forces of evil, manifest in his earthly attachments, and cloying to his senses of certainty in all things. He worked seldom at his posting as a fishmonger, only attending at the behest of his landlord, as his mother had died and his younger brother dispatched to lands unknown. He spoke many words of avarice, desired all wickedness without awareness; just as the many spirits tempted him, he would follow. Therefore in penance this conduit would perform fasting and prayer, not yet able to confess the dread which afflicted him.

Weeks passed. Spears of strange constitution began to appear in his vision, glazed in a red sheen of carrion and fire, sometimes waving towards him, as if to impale his body in their course. And at any time when he was troubled, his capricious body would act of its own accord and his mind filled with suggestions of which he had not designed. This conduit was soon sent to a confessor in the sanctuary at the recommendation of his employer, having broken his machinery in the midst of these early orientations. And when he arrived at the point of uttering the nature of what he had for so long concealed, the scholar hastily and sharply rebuked the nature of his confession, fearful and —. By consequence, this conduit retreated from the stalks which he would otherwise frequent. And when he had for so long been plagued by these and many other visions, so that he had otherwise been forgotten by the world, the Divine Navigator, Alaxus, may xir name never be rebuked– appeared to him.

Archivist's note: This is one of the oldest written Nemean fragments we have access to. It seems to begin the autobiography of a Nemean claiming to be blessed by Alaxus. You must request permission to view this source from the Head of Isolation-Era Nemean Artefacts, and wear gloves at all times when handling it.
